BREAKING NEWS: Daniel Toribio, manager of the Banco de Reservas, said that during the first three months of the year 2009, the financial entity he runs lent 303 millions pesos for the touristic and real estate development of the province La Altagracia. This is a total of 4.032 millions pesos lent since January 2008.

Toribio made these declarations as he was reading the inauguration speech of a new business office of Banreservas in the Plaza Verón Center.

He emphasized the business relations the bank had with the local sectors, reason for which the credits of the entity were extended of 8% during the year. On the other side, in 2008, an extraordinary increase of 17% in comparison with 2007 was registered.

These laying out reflect a permanent support by our institution towards the development of the tourist and real estate sector of this zone, he added.

BREAKING NEWS: The NAP of the Caribbean and the Punta Cana-Macao Electrical Consortium (CEPM), announced the beginning of woks of their optic fiber system on the high tension cables that goes from Punta Cana to the Cybernetical Park of Juan Dolio, at the East of Santo Domingo.

NAP of the Caribbean president Alvaro Nadal said via a strategic alliance aimed at expanding broadband telecommunications services in this thriving tourism zone, the two companies activated the optic fiber section that links Punta Cana with the NAP of the Caribbean through a transmission system over the CEPM’s high voltage power lines.

This new system -that was officially activated on Friday March 27th- uses the underground conduct of the high tension cables to put a cable of optic fiber for telecommunications, said Álvaro Nadal, executive president of NAP of the Caribbean.

He explained that due to the infrastructure’s robustness of the lines and towers used in these electricity distribution networks, this modality to expand telecommunications services provides great security against all types of natural disasters.

BREAKING NEWS: Punta Cana. - To more enrich the offer with a greater quality is that whose needs the Dominican destination to consolidate its place on the Caribbean and international tourist market, as said by the president of the Iberostar hotel chain, Miguel Fluxá, within the framework of the inauguration of the tenth edition of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE), which took place from 20 to 22 April in the premises of the Center of Conventions of the Barceló Bavaro Complex in Punta Cana.

The president of the Spanish group stressed that the hotels of Dominican Republic maintained a growing occupation rate in spite of the current international economic crisis, which he allotted in a great part to the « charisma » of the Dominicans, whose kindness seduces everyone.

To maintain this level, quality should be offered, affirmed the executive of Iberostar, hotel chain which is operating in Dominican Republic for 17 years.

A common strategy, the key to success

On his side, the Ministry of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, ensured that the identification of objectives and common strategies between the governmental sector and the employers is guaranteeing the success of the local tourism industry.

The work of all the sector on all the branches will allow to avoid turbulences which has affected the economies worldwide, announced the minister during the inauguration of the DATE 2009, activity he described as the best demonstration of this joint effort.

García especially congratulated Asonahores and her director, Haydée Kuret de Rainieri, as well as the Tour Operators who market the Dominican destination, for the successes obtained and the consolidation during a decade of the DATE fair as the principal marketing event for the Dominican tourist product.

BREAKING NEWS: The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) on April 15 approved new flights by different air lines to and from the Dominican Republic, among them Martinair Holland, N.V., to change its operation permit to include the regular flight Amsterdam-Varadero-Punta Cana-Amsterdam.

Air Berlìn, PLC was also authorized to operate regular flights and charters from and to Dominican Republic, said the JAC.

Moreover, Ecuador’s Tame Airline will have 9 flights between Quito and Punta Cana; Skyservice Airlines, Inc. will have 5 charter flights from Toronto to Punta Cana, and Skyway air cargo another 22 charter flights from Aguadilla to Santo Domingo.

Meanwhile Livingston Airline, SPA will have 6 charter flights between Rome, Milan and La Romana; Canada’s Canjet Airlines will offer 15 flights between Toronto Fredericton, Halifax, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, and St. Johns.

The Spanish company Iberworld will provide 19 charter flights between Punta Cana and Madrid, whereas the company Edelweiss Air will offer 4 non-regular flights between Germany, Zurich and Punta Cana.
