BREAKING NEWS: President Leonel Fernández inaugurated on Friday the work of the Highway El Coral, with an investment exceeding 279 million dollars.

Highway El Coral, which will be built over a period of about three years, will spread over 70km and be part of the primary highway system, connecting Santo Domingo to major cities, airports and tourist areas of the East zone of the country.

This work, which the Government will build through the Ministry of Public Works, is really important for the province La Altagracia and the development of the whole area.

The main speech of the ceremony, conducted at the International Airport of Punta Cana, was given by the Minister of Public Works, Víctor Díaz Rúa, who announced that during this same activity, the construction company Autopista del Coral was given 10 million dollars to begin the Tourist Boulevard Punta Cana, which will link all the hotels in the area.

Similarly, he announced that in the coming days, the auction for the construction of the Cruce de Veron-Miches, Sabana de la Mar will begin.

This road will link the area to the Tourist Atlantic Boulevard by using a ferry.

The highway El Coral will reduce of 50km the distance between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, and will link all the tourist attractions of the area.

The project involves the construction of three new bridges on the rivers Chavón, Duey and Santa Clara.

British tourism is growing in Dominican Republic

BREAKING NEWS: Punta Cana.-The airline British Airways has opened the route London-Punta Cana with Flight 2157, allowing its users to travel to England and the Dominican Republic twice a week.

Executives of the airline, the tourist industry representatives and local authorities were satisfied with the new route London-Punta Cana.

The Dominican ambassador in England, Aníbal de Castro said that the new route was very important for the country because it demonstrates that the Dominican tourism strengthens each day a little more, and reflects confidence about economic prospects in the Dominican Republic.

This shows that the policy developed in tourism has been accepted, which is to try to move the tourism to a higher level of tourism purchasing power, without neglecting the traditional areas of the country so far.

Mr. De Castro said the country receives annually two hundred and fifty thousand tourists from the United Kingdom, a figure expected to increase considerably with the introduction of this new route. The Dominican Republic is now the only Hispanic country in the Caribbean to receive direct flights from London via British Airways.

The inauguration of flights to the Dominican Republic British Airways was attended by the Dominican ambassador in Great Britain, Anibal de Castro, President of the Punta Cana Group, Frank Rainieri, the president of the National Association Hotels and Restaurants (Asonahores), as well as executives of the airline.
